Welcome Address

Welcome to Accra Girls’ Vocational Institute (AGIVOC) - Accra, Ghana.

Our school was established in 1973 and is situated near the Santana Market in Tesano, Accra and about 274meters away from the Police Station. We are a day and lodging school and have successfully presented over 5,000 students for both the N.V.T.I (National Vocational and Technical Institute) and GES (Ghana Education Service – Technical Exams Unit) Examinations. Also, NABPTEX (National Board for Professional Technicians Examinations). The three main courses studied are Catering, Fashion and Designing and Hairdressing and Cosmetology.

However, we have started a new course in Electronics designed for females who are interested in pursuing a technical subject area. Our success rates have been so impressive that we attract a few boys each year particularly in our catering department. Another attestation to our academic excellence is the school being an examination centre for both the NVTI and GES examinations boards. We have also made remarkably achievements in extra curricula activities having won a number of regional and national trophies in hand and volleyball games as well as athletics.

AGIVOC has recently been selected and approved as a qualified training provider by both COTVET (Council for Technical Vocational Education and Training) as well as GSDI (Ghana Skills Development Initiative) – a collaboration between Ghanaian and German governments to help build the capacity of the unskilled workforce in certain trade areas of the economy. Consequently, a 55-day training program was rolled out to help build the capacity of apprentices in the cosmetology sector (hair and beauty). Also, a 2-weeks program was organized to train their mastercrafts persons to ensure good managerial skills in order to effectively run their businesses and guide the apprentices in their workplaces. This is good  news because we now train both the formal and informal sectors of the economy, thereby contributing immensely to the development of our nation through vocational education and training.

At AGIVOC we have a number of key objectives which aim to:

  • Value each individual.
  • Provide a challenging and stimulating learning environment.
  • Enable each individual to reach their full potential.
  • Offer equality of opportunity.
  • Develop and encourage the desire to learn.
  • Promote independence and responsibility.
  • Provide an awareness and experience of industry, commerce and education.
  • Provide clear and concise communication within our centres and the wider community.

With fully qualified instructors and management team, coupled with excellent infrastructure and equipments, we strive to meet our aims and objectives.

I hope our website will convey and reflect our energy, vitality, enthusiasm in our activities, and show achievements and records made over the past years. If there is any information you are unable to find or any comments you wish to make, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
